Shower triggered at sunset
This is one of a series of clouds that spilled over the range on Sunday, 10 June 2012. Throughout most of the day, there were just clouds, but right around sunset, when the temperature dropped rapidly, the dewpoint within these clouds changed equally rapidly, leading to precipitation. In some cases this led to virga, in others - as shown here - the rain actually reached the ground. This shot was taken west of Wee Waa, looking across the plains towards Burren Junction. At the time this photo was taken, the sun had already set. It is the first time I have noticed showers being triggered by falling temperature associated with the setting of the sun.
